It's easy to be alarmed by reports about lead in toys, choking hazards, and unsafe toys imported from China - especially since we don't usually worry about a toy until it shows up in the news next to a tragic story. Here's at least one site that can help: HealthyToys.org
HealthyToys.org is a project of the Ecology Center, a Michigan-based environmental advocacy organization. The site is full of information, with tons of details on toy regulation, how they test for toy safety and health, and alternatives to unsafe toys. The best part for busy parents? The best and worst toy lists, which give glimpses of which products have the lowest and highest detected levels of unsafe materials. You can also search their database by brand or type to find test results for particular toys.
Happy - and healthy - shopping!
