Aluminum containers with flexible plastic lids are great toys beyond the obligatory drum. Try making a shape sorter by collecting various lids and caps (I used baby bottle caps from my daughter's small bottles; large round, metal caps from juice containers; and plastic tops to liter bottles). Use an x-acto knife or scissors to cut shapes in the lid so that the objects can slide in.

We've also discovered that these containers are great tools for babies to learn about stickers. The plastic lid is adhesive enough to keep the sticker on, but you can also easily take the sticker off. Use the container as storage for finger puppets, small blocks, cars, and other toys!
