Gladys, Thanks for sharing this wonderful info about how parents can choose great books to read with their children. A good book is also in the eyes of the beholder (families should always keep in mind the interests of their children, in addition to all your great tips) when picking out books to share.

I recently started a illustrated classic version of Pilgrim's Progress with my 4 year old. I thought he would be too young to understand the original text. I remember reading it as an 11 year old with a dictionary close by. I wonder if I have made a mistake by introducing it too early.
